I feel compelled to write to you in relation to a visit I paid to the Kidderminster Cafe on Saturday 1st March 2014, with my elderly mother.
We were informed at the time of ordering our food that it would be 20 minutes waiting time - we agreed that this was OK. Having ordered and then paid for our food and drinks, we set about trying to locate a free table - there was one, but it was not clean and there were dirty plates and cups on the table, along with bits of sausage and other food stuff on the floor. We stood by the table waiting for a member of staff to relieve us of the dirty crockery and clean the table, however no one did. We stood at the table for five minutes and one very kind customer at the table behind let us put down our tray on her table as she could see it was uncomfortable standing there for so long holding a heavy tray. With no one coming to our assistance, we then set about clearing the table ourselves, as I was conscious of my elderly mother, who is disabled, having to stand for so long and also her hot pot of tea going cold. We managed to move the dirty crockery to a nearby vacant table reserved for wheelchair users. We then attempted to wipe the table ourselves with serviettes. We then sat down and waited. The 20 minute wait came and went and instead our wait lasted 35 minutes. By the time our food arrived, my mother's pot of tea had long gone cold.
Imagine then to our dismay, that my mother's food was served cold and mine was barely lukewarm. My mother, pushed her food aside, not wanting to complain, however, I did not want to see my mother out of pocket and picked up her food and took it to a member of staff who took the food off me and we then had a further 10 minute delay whilst more food was prepared.
Neither my mother or myself feel we will visit Morrisons cafe again. The issues of poor hygiene, having to sit at a dirty table with food under our feet, cleaning a table as best we could with limited items in our possession and then having to wait, only to receive cold food is just not good enough. It would appear that there weren't the number of staff to cope with the number of customers. Maybe the cafe should operate a closed when full policy, as people were hovering around our table trying to find a vacant table and we were well aware that other people were also very disgruntled.
I am not one to normally complain, but felt that on this occasion I had to bring these issues to your attention.
I look forward to hearing your response to our experience.
