Surprised to see negative comments about Lidl. Yes the range offered is not as wide as the big supermarkets but does anyone really need a choice of 20 different cheddars? The prices are very good, the Colchester store is clean and has some interesting bits in the 'Middle of Lidl' Staff have always been friendly
All Lidl stores are much of a muchness: clean, compact and modern looking with a quite strange selection of food and random clothing/farming implements. Problem is, apart from the occasional bargain hedgetrimmer or snorkelling set, the prices aren't that great and there aren't many recognisable brands. A lot of stuff seems to be Eastern European versions of Western products.
There is no dedicated Customer Support in-store, you have to queue at the till even if you have no shopping, and then wait while the assistant talks to someone else on their headset (while in the meantime, the queue is building up behind you). Quite exasperating IMO.
Unsurprisingly the staff don't appear particularly happy to be there.
On the plus side, there's ample parking and er... you can deposit your old batteries there. Um... well it's good if you need bread and milk in a hurry I suppose.
Not a real replacement for the Co-Op that was there previously :-(
